How to Make Yummy Gummy Candy

If you are like many sweet tooth gummy bear lovers out there then you are probably interested in learning how you can make your very own gummy candy.
It’s really quite simple. If you know how to make jello then you are already 3/4 steps of the way of knowing how to make gummy candy.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of flavored Gelatin (preferably Jello Gelatin)
  • 6 packs of unflavored gelatin
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • A couple of candy molds pans, depending on the size of candy you are making and how many

Preparation Steps:

  1. Grease your candy molds pans with butter spray or use a paper towel and grease with any type of butter
  2. Put all the food ingredients into a pot or saucepan and stir together until fully blended
  3. Cook on stove top over medium to low heat, stirring occasionally
  4. Once fully blended, remove from heat and add contents into candy molds
  5. Place molds into freezer for 10 minutes or until contents become solid
  6. Once solid, remove from freezer and then from candy molds
  7. Get your grub on

This is What You Need for Making Candy Apples

Candy apples are widely known as toffee apples. These are whole apples which are covered with a hard coating of sugar. The topping of these candies varies from place to place and is served with a stick that acts as a handle to pick up the candy. Candy apples are a special treat in the autumn festivals like Guy Fawkes Night and Halloween as these two festivals fall in apple harvest season. It is the most famous desert in United States of America as well as in other western countries.

Candy is a broad term which includes candy bars, chewing gums, toffees, chocolates and many more. Candy is made by mixing sugar in milk or water and this mixture is then boiled at a desired temperature. The final texture of the candy depends upon the temperature levels used for boiling the mixtures, the more higher the temperature the harder it becomes and the lesser the temperature the softer it becomes.

Candy is available in different forms and quality like soft, chewy, hard and brittle. Gum drops, lollipops, cotton candies and candy bars are some of the varieties available in the market. Gelatin is mixed with some candies, like marshmallows and gummy bears, which are made from animal bones. Thus these chocolates cannot be eaten by the vegetarian people. Sweets like apple candies are without any animal content so these can be eaten by all the people.

You do not need to be an expert cook for making the candy apples. For making the candy apples you will need:

Ingredients: One dozen red delicious apples, 4-1/2 cups sugar,12 wooden ice cream sticks, 1 tsp red food color, 1-1/2 cups water, 3/4th cup light corn syrup and 1 cup chopped nuts.

Procedure: Cover a baking sheet/ tin with butter paper. Keep it aside. Wash the apples clean and put the wooden stem through each apple leaving some part of the sticks above the apple. Take the chopped nuts in bowl which is deep enough to dip the apples. Add the corn syrup, sugar and the red food color in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Stir continuously until all the ingredients get dissolved properly or until the temperature reaches 290 degree F (check the temperature with the candy thermometer). The whole cooking process will take about twenty minutes. Take the syrup down from the gas stove and then dip the apples in it. Be sure that the syrup spreads evenly. When you finish dipping the apples in the syrup roll the apples in the chopped nuts and keep it for cooling (at least one hour cooling is needed before serving them).Your candy apples are ready to serve and eat. Candy apples are available in different flavors, so one can choose according to the individuals need.

Candy apples can be eaten for within a period of two weeks and if stored under the right temperature conditions the life of these candies can be increased. These candies need to be stored in a dry and cool place away from the sunlight.

The Sweet Summer Treat That Banishes the Bulge

This is my favorite time of the year. The summer fruits start hitting the supermarkets and produce stands. Every cooking magazine is chocked full of simple and delicious recipes with fruit as the main ingredient. Fruit is a powerful food when it comes to health, happiness and weight loss.
Truth be told, you don’t really have to do much to summer fruits to make them taste amazing, you just merely wait until they’re ripe and dive right in.
When I was a kid, my mom used to buy a big basket of strawberries and cut them up, put them in a bowl, and sprinkle sugar on top. She would put them in the fridge and wait a few hours until they mixed with the sugar to make a syrupy sweet mess at the bottom of that bowl. I used to love that. But these days, I don’t want to ruin berries, or any fruit for that matter, with silly sugar. Let the delicious summer fruits subtly seduce you on their own. Taste the sweetness only nature can produce.
Luckily, new trends in weight loss are now showing that perhaps we don’t need to steer clear of the calories in fruit, but instead load up on mostly fruits that contain more water in a larger package. Watermelon is the perfect example. It is a huge fruit, can take up a lot of room on your picnic plate, tastes amazing and is mostly water.
Which means, you can eat a bunch of watermelon, feel full and eat fewer of the high calorie foods you would have eaten instead (i.e. evil culprits like mayonnaise-laden potato salad or an extra hot dog). This little trick can help you fell fuller longer and might even eliminate those cravings for the brownies or ice-cream that can be typically served at summer get-togethers.
Other great fruits to consider are raspberries, grapefruit, melons, peaches, and pineapple (and to me these are the all-stars). These fruits are full of a soluble fiber called pectin (which is also sometimes contained in fruit-like gummy candies and jelly beans) which can cling to fats in the digestive tract and flush them out before they can be absorbed by the body. Don’t go crazy though, this is merely meant as an aid in slimming down, not an excuse to eat more.
Another great tip and one that is dear to the green movement, is to try to buy and eat local produce whenever possible. It supports your own community, and because it doesn’t need to travel as far, it doesn’t require as much gas to be consumed and in turn can even be slightly less expensive these days. In addition, because it travels a shorter distance to the consumer can actually be picked and sold when it is ripe. Vine-ripened fruit is shown to contain twice as much of something than that of green-picked fruit- super-oxidants known as nonfluorescent chlorophyll catabolites (boy is that a mouthful!). These fabulous NCCs (can we call them that?) assist the liver’s ability to burn fat. Hoorah!
It does make sense that the longer something is in the soil and absorbing the sun, the more nutrients it contains…
I have to say, this is the some of the best news I have heard all week. So go out and buy some ripe and local sweet fruit and have a fun weekend. You may just be a delicious baby-step leaner.

The internet is perhaps the best bet for the widest variety of choices. Here are a few crafts from the internet that are exceedingly easy to carry out during the Halloween season.
A Q-Tip skeleton is one craft that was found on the internet and can be done by just about anyone. First, take some white paper and cut out a skull from it. You can either cut out the nose, eyes and mouth or you can draw them on. Then using Q-tips, make the body of the skeleton. Arrange the Q-tips on some black construction paper in such a way that they make the legs, ribs, and arms etc. of the skeleton. If you need to, you can shorten the q-tips by cutting them. Once you are satisfied with the skeletal arrangement, just glue the Q-tips to the paper using white glue and leave to dry.
Who doesn’t love Halloween crafts that are edible? Dirt and worms is the most popular edible Halloween craft and is especially a hit with the kids. All you need to do is take a clean clear plastic cup and fill it with some chocolate ice cream. Then take some chocolate cookies in a zip-loc bag and smash them into tiny bits. Take the smashed pieces and some gummy worms and pour them over the ice cream. Your dirt and worms is ready and you can have a great time eating it.
You can even adapt some difficult Halloween crafts into easy ones. You can make a cute little pumpkin wreath by cutting little pumpkins from some orange construction paper and using a black marker to draw scary faces on them. Then cut out the center circle off a paper plate and clue the pumpkins around its edges. Punch a hole at the top, pull a hole through it and hang.
Ghostly bushes is another Halloween craft that can make you a Halloween sensation in your neighborhood. Take a plain white sheet. Fold it into a half. Place a few newspapers between the folds and use some craft paint or a black marker to draw a ghost face on it. You can make either scary or funny faces. After it has dried, place the sheet over a bush and tightly secure it with some clothespins at the back.

Then, matching the heels of the hand, flip the paper around and press the hand again after recoating it with paint. Wedding Candy Bars are the Path to Adventure

Usually when I get to a wedding reception I’m already ecstatic for the couple being married, but the moment I see a wedding candy bar in the room my eyes light up and signal my brain it will be a sugar filled and gluttonous night. I can’t help but give high praise to the couple for knowing how to provide such delightful wedding favors for their hundreds of guests. What better to indulge the insatiable sweet tooth that with the manna from heaven, a wedding candy bar?

Many people out there are excited to receive the flower arrangements placed on the table so that they could take them home and display them for all to see. That’s really way too much commitment in my opinion. I really can’t be bothered with transporting an overzealous tablescape to only worry about one more thing to water at home. Just point me in the direction of the wedding candy bar and I’m set. All you really need to send me home with is an intense sugar rush and euphoric pleasure that comes from that wedding candy bar.

You see, I’m not the type to stay in my seat for the entirety of the reception. Sure I mingle and talk to other guests there. What easier excuse can I use to get up from the table just to escape sitting next to middle-aged drunk man who came stag to the wedding reception? I can casually get up and head over to the wedding candy bar and no one would be the wiser. I can stand there and ponder about the combination of sweets I can make at the wedding candy bar. Would personalized M&M’s pair well with black licorice? Of course they don’t, black licorice is the nastiest candy in the world. Personalized M&M’s should match with the candied lychees at the end of the row. There are the chocolate turtles eyeing me with those beady nut eyes. No, but I must save that confectionary for its own meal. Those chocolate turtles deserve it. This time, I need something a bit more fruity in nature and easy enough to share. I find my treasure in some gummy worms and start my trek back from the wedding candy bar.

On the way back I see my old college buddy and stop to converse to him about the greatness of these wedding favors the bridal party has opted for. He, being crazy for anything sweet, expresses how he has already visited the wedding candy bar six times before his cute little sister told him to not look like such an addict. Naturally, I took her side on the matter even though I was close to double digits for the number of times I walked to that sugary heaven. Not to be controlled by his sibling, he took off from his table and headed to fill another bag with edible wedding favors.

With him gone, I took my chance with his twenty three year old sister and chatted with her for a few minutes. I offered some of my gummy worms to her and she exchanged with some from her own stash. Black licorice, truly it is the bane of my existence. It hadn’t occurred to me that something would actually pick those accursed straws of poison. What did it matter though? She was cute and we were starting to hit it off at a wedding reception of all places. Numbers were exchanged and I resumed my journey from the wedding candy back and back to table twelve.

I was dreading what would happen when I get back to the table with my seat assigned next to Captain Morgan himself. From where I was, it started to look like he was hitting on one of the other ladies at the table much to her discomfort. I just used my wedding candy bar excuse and it wouldn’t look right to make another run for at least another half hour. I inhaled deep and lowered myself into the chair hoping Jack Daniels would be too preoccupied trying to bring home his own wedding favor for the night. He turned to me wanting a pen so he could write his number down for the lady but to my luck he eyes the wedding gift I had assembled from the wedding candy bar.

The captain expressed his childlike wonderment at the cute little candy filled bag I have in my hand and asked, “Where did you get that?” To which I handily replied, “Over at the wedding candy bar on the opposite side of the room.” It’s not hard to see how the sight of some Jordan Almonds makes people want to grab some as well. Johnnie Walker here shifts his attention to procuring himself a bag of his own and clumsily excused himself from the table. The lady he was formerly conversing with thanks me for shifting the guy’s attention to the wedding candy bar providing her with a few minutes of relief.

And as Mr. Morgan puked on some suit three tables away, I sat happily with my eighth wedding favor of the night and giggle to myself. Wedding candy bars really do make these wedding receptions better. Sometimes though, they dont quite satisfy my taste buds suffciently, and so i’m required to hit up the a trusted online candy store.

An Early Halloween Celebration

This is a long blog, but it is well worth the read if you love horror, food, drinks, friends and a good story. I was searching the DISH Network channel guide to see what suspenseful movies will be on for the remainder of September. Now that October is just around the corner after a very short summer, it is time to prepare for fall festivities and scary movies. I look forward to going apple picking and attending fall fairs, going to the Christmas Tree Shoppe to stock up on fall decor and, of course, curling up on cold weekend nights for some good horror movies! I started to think about how I can start the Halloween experience early, so I decided that I’m going to invite a few friends over this weekend for a fun night of horror! I’m not going crazy on creepy decorations just yet, but we’ll certainly light a few candles to set the ambiance. I was thinking of preparing a delicious dinner, followed by two horror movies then a little good night story for my friends before they leave for the evening. I should mention that my daughter is going to be at her grandmother’s house while this is happening! So far, I have found some great recipes from Food Network to share with you for the dinner and treats.Appetizers To add some Halloween color into the mix, I’m going to make this appetizer that includes a witch green color.Roasted Chile Guacamole with Baked Tortilla ChipsBaked Tortilla Chips: • Cooking spray• 3 sun-dried tomato basil tortilla wraps• 3 garden spinach herb tortilla wraps • Olive oil• Salt and pepper Guacamole:• 1/2 cup frozen chopped onion, thawed • 2 cups frozen no-salt added petite peas, thawed • 1/3 cup water• 2 tablespoons lemon juice • 1 (1-ounce) packet guacamole seasoning mix• 1 teaspoon chopped garlic• 1/2 cup diced tomatoes with no-salt added• 1 cup chopped avocado• 1 (7-ounce) can fire roasted diced green chilesFor tortillas chips:Directions:Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray; set aside. On a cutting board, stack 3 tortillas and using a sharp knife, cut into 8 wedges (like a pie). Repeat with remaining tortillas. Separate any that may stick together. Place on baking sheet, evenly spaced. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. Remove and let cool. For Guacamole:In a medium saucepan combine onions, peas, water, lemon juice, guacamole seasoning, and garlic. Cook for 10 minutes until ingredients are soft. Remove from heat and let cool. Pour cooled pea mixture into a large bowl. Add avocado and mash with a fork or potato masher. Strain tomatoes and add to bowl with green chilies. Mix until blended. Serve with baked chips. I’m thinking I’ll go with Emeril’s Tin Can MargaritasIngredients:• 1 lime, cut in wedges• Coarse salt, for glasses• 1 large can frozen limeade• 1 full can good-quality tequila• 1/2 can triple-sec• 1/2 can lemon juice • IceDirections:Rub rims of glasses with a lime wedge; place salt in a saucer and dip rims. In a pitcher combine remaining ingredients, stir well and fill up with ice. Serve in salt-rimmed glasses with lime wedges. And now…for the main course…Pumpkin-Peanut Curry Noodles with Five-Spice Seared Scallops and Shrimp, which only takes 20 minutes to cook (believe it or not)!Ingredients:• 1 pound spaghetti• Salt • 5 tablespoons vegetable oil or peanut oil• 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped • 2 inches ginger root, minced or grated • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter • 1/4 to 1/3 cup tamari dark soy sauce, eyeball it • 1 (15-ounce) can cooked pumpkin • 2 rounded tablespoonfuls mild or hot curry paste (recommended: Patak’s) found on international foods aisle • 3 tablespoons five-spice powder• 12 jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined• 12 diver scallops, trimmed and patted dry• 4 scallions, cut into 2-inch pieces, then thinly sliced lengthwise into matchsticksDirections:Heat a large pot of water for noodles. When water boils, salt it and add pasta to cook to al dente or with a bite to it. While pasta cooks, heat a large, deep skillet over medium heat with 2 tablespoons vegetable or peanut oil. Add garlic, ginger, red bell pepper, and pepper flakes to the pan and cook together a couple of minutes, then add peanut butter and melt it. Whisk soy into peanut butter, then stir in pumpkin and curry paste. The sauce will be very thick. Turn down the heat to low. Add a ladle or 2 of pasta cooking water to thin sauce a bit and simmer over low heat. Adjust salt, to taste. Heat a small to medium skillet over high heat. Pour the five-spice powder onto a plate with some salt. Press both sides of the shrimp and scallops into the powder. Add 3 tablespoons of remaining oil to hot skillet. Place the shrimp in the pan and cook 1 minute, flip and sear the other side until just opaque. Remove shrimp to a plate and set aside. Add another 3 tablespoons of oil to the skillet and heat back up to smoking. Add the scallops and sear on both sides until opaque. Remove scallops and add to the plate of shrimp. Drain pasta and return pasta to the pot. Add the curry-pumpkin sauce and toss thoroughly. Serve noodles on 4 plated and top with scallions and seafood. All I have to say is YUM!And now for dessert…Dirt Pudding! This literally takes 5 minutes!Have some pudding prepared from the night before, crack open a package of Oreos and crumble the cookies into the pudding. For some reason every time she pushes her clothes into the washing machine, she gets the feeling that someone is behind her, but she keeps going, admitting the thought is ridiculous. The basement never bothered her before. It isn’t musty as there’s a dehumidifier down there. It hasn’t been emptied for a while but the air is still dry. The cobwebs are always dusted and swept away as she is not fond of spiders, so the basement is fairly clean minus a few bags and it’s bright enough so there are no unlit corners. She hears her son rummaging through something in the living room upstairs, so she quickly goes back upstairs to be sure he is being safe.Her son decided to try out his new roller-skates while mom was downstairs. The lady reminded her son that he needs to wear a helmet and kneepads if he wants to roller-skate then he can join her in the basement while she washes clothes. There is more room to skate in the large space downstairs. The husband had just recently finished ripping the rug off the basement stairs so he can replace it and there are small nails sticking out of the front of a few of the stairs. The mom tells her son that she’ll carry him downstairs because he’s already wearing his skates and she doesn’t want him to get hurt on the nails. The son complies.Once the son’s helmet and kneepads are on, the mom sets him free to skate about the basement. Then she gets this horrible chill down her spine and a sick feeling in her stomach so she takes a minute to lean up against the table where she folds her clean clothes. She can’t figure out what the problem is, but her father is in the hospital so she decides to call her mom from the cell phone she has in her sweatshirt pocket to be sure everything is okay with him. Her mom said that everything is good and that her dad will be coming home the next day. Her dad fell and one of his toenails was caught on something and had been ripped off completely. He is a heavy man and any fall he takes is sure to cause some damage, but hooking his toenail on something made it even worse.”He’s fine”, she thought, “so what can this horrible feeling be?” Her son is skating as fast as he can while holding onto the basement wall. She covers her face with her hands trying to think of what the problem could be. All of a sudden her son catches one of his skates in the grate of the basement drain. His skate stays there and his body goes flying forward. He luckily landed on a trash bag that was full of clothes the mom put down there a week ago for the Salvation Army.She dashes to her son who is crying out of shock from falling with his new skates. She comforts him and walks over to retrieve his skate, still stuck in the grate of the drain. “These crazy plastic roller-skates. We’ll get you a new pair today, baby”. She looks back down at the skate and notices something hairy sticking out of the drain along with a foul odor. She calls her husband to come home from work on his break to check this out. She puts on a movie upstairs for her son who is ready for a nap. Her husband gets home shortly after and hurries with her to the basement to see what she was talking about. He grabs a crow bar that was stashed behind the dryer and pries open the drain, catching a bunch of hair along the way and flinging the object across the room once the grate breaks free. It thumps against the wall and falls behind the trash bags full of clothes. They notice that whatever it is, it’s bleeding because there is a splat of blood on the wall. “I wish I had my father check that drain when he was down here last weekend. You know how I like to keep that clean”. They tiptoe over to where the object had thumped to the ground and peeked behind the bags. They scream and jump back when they realize it’s a human head with skin that is falling off from spending so much time in the drain water. They panic and the husband takes a good look to make sure they didn’t miss anything else down there. He noticed her father’s pocketknife under the basement stairs with blood on it. He does not pick it up. As he examines the stairs for further evidence, he sees what he originally thought was a leftover piece of the carpet he had ripped up and notices that it’s a toenail. “Get upstairs and call the police!” The wife calls the police who eventually get there and investigate her basement. They observe the head and ask them what is in the bags that are on the floor. The lady tells them that they’re stuffed with clothes. They open the bag and notice body parts that have been hacked up and stuffed in quilts. They take the toenail as evidence.Goodie Bags to Take Home:Some fun trinkets from iParty along with some cool Halloween lollipops!Ingredients:• 6 or 8-inch wooden pop sticks• Gummy worms, as needed• 2 cups sugar • 2/3 cup corn syrup • 2/3 cup water• 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract• 1/4 teaspoon orange, lemon or cherry extract• Few drops orange food coloringDirectionsLay a silicone sheet on a baking pan, place the sticks on the pan and place 3 pieces of gummy Worms above the tip of each stick to form a gummy worm triangle. Combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water in a clean, dry small saucepan. (It is best to use a heavy gauge pan and preferably with a pour spout.) Bring to a boil over high heat and cook without stirring until the mixture reaches 305 degrees F or “hard crack” stage on a candy thermometer. Occasionally wash down the sides of the pan with a clean pastry brush dipped in water to remove any sugar crystals that are clinging to the sides of the pan. When the mixture reaches 305 degrees F, remove the pan from heat and dip the bottom of the pan into an ice bath for a few seconds to stop the candy from cooking. Add the extracts and food coloring and stir very gently with a wooden spoon so the color is evenly distributed. Pour the syrup over the gummy worms and just over the stick. Cool the candy for at least 20 minutes. Lift the lollipops off the silicone and either serve immediately or wrap in an airtight container. Now, tell me I can’t plan an awesome night of fun with a few close friends!
